OCD therapy
OCD therapy in Kelowna that actually targets the loop
If intrusive thoughts and the compulsions that follow have quietly taken over more of your day than you'd like, you're not broken and you're not alone. OCD is treatable — and the right kind of therapy can give you your time, attention, and freedom back.
I'm Kate Kemp, a Registered Social Worker offering OCD counselling for adults (18+), in person in Kelowna and online anywhere in British Columbia.
This might sound familiar
- Intrusive thoughts you can't seem to argue your way out of
- Checking, counting, washing, or repeating that eats up time
- Mental rituals — reviewing, praying, neutralizing, reassurance-seeking
- "Just right" feelings, or fear of acting on a thought you'd never want to
- Avoiding people, places, or tasks to keep the anxiety down
The loop
A thought spikes anxiety, a compulsion brings brief relief, and the brain learns to run the loop again — tighter each time.
It's not about willpower
Trying harder to not think the thought usually backfires. OCD responds to a specific, learnable approach — not white-knuckling.
It's treatable
ERP is one of the best-studied treatments in mental health. Most people see meaningful change with the right support.
How I can help
We start by mapping your particular loop — the triggers, the thoughts, and the compulsions (including the invisible mental ones). Then, at a pace you set, we use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) to help your brain learn that the feared outcome doesn't arrive and the anxiety fades on its own.
I also draw on Inference-based CBT (I-CBT) for the doubt and "what if" stories OCD runs on, and mindfulness-based skills to make room for discomfort without feeding it. Sessions are collaborative, never pushy — you're always in the driver's seat.
Approaches I draw on
- Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP)
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
- Inference-based CBT (I-CBT)
- Mindfulness & acceptance skills
